Colorado State picked up first conference win of the season
PHOENIX – A strong start to the second half helped Colorado State men's basketball pick up its first Mountain West win of the season over Grand Canyon 70-60 Saturday Night.
Four Rams finished in double figures scoring as a 16-0 run sparked CSU to snap a two-game losing streak and pick up the first win in the series between the two programs.
How It Happened
Teams feeling each other out early on before CSU's defense stepped up and helped the Rams go on a 10-2 run to go up double figures. The run was capped off by a Carey Booth block leading to a fast break Jevin Muniz and-one on the other end.
The Rams came out on fire in the second half, outscoring the Lopes 21-2 in the first eight minutes to grow the halftime lead from six to 25. The on slot from CSU included a stretch of 6:32, in which the Lopes were held scoreless and CSU went on a 16-0 run.
Grand Canyon did not give in, responding with a 16-4 run to cut the lead to 13 with four and a half minutes left.
The Rams put the game away at the free throw line to secure the win.
Game Notes
- Carey Booth led the team with his fourth double-double of the year with 19 points and 12 assists. He was a perfect 6-for-6 from the line.
- Auggie Kiudulas had a CSU career-high 15 points connecting on a pair of 3s.
- Brandon Rechsteiner and Jevin Muinz each added in 14 points.
- Muniz added in six rebounds.

Colorado State hosts two games next week in Moby Arena, starting on Tuesday, January 6, against New Mexico at 7 pm. The Rams then host UNLV on Friday, January 9, at 8 pm.
