Throwers Compete in Mines Winter Classic

Women take home three of top four places in shot put

GOLDEN – A cohort of Colorado State throwers traveled to Colorado School of Mines to compete in the Mines Winter Classic on Friday, with shot put taking place on the first day of action.
 
The women's team entered three competitors into the field and claimed three of the top four spots, headlined by Makayla Long's first-place finish. Long logged a throw of 16.14 meters/52-feet-11.5 to stand atop the podium, while Erin Brown (14.30m/46-11) finished runner-up. Placing fourth was Katy Taylor who notched a personal best 12.48/40-11.5
 
Kyle Bigley was the lone competitor for the CSU men, and he delivered by taking home the top honors. Bigley put up a season-best mark of 18.18 meters/59-feet-7.75, doing so on his final throw of the evening.
 
Up Next
Day two of the Mines Winter Classic will take place tomorrow, with Colorado State slated to compete in the weight throw competitions beginning at 10 a.m.
