Sweedish duo leave no doubt in hammer throw
FORT COLLINS – Colorado State track and field throwers competed on Friday, kicking off the Jack Christiansen Invite with the hammer throw. Adam Hellbom finished first on the men's side while Kajsa Borrman led the women's field.Â
Jack Christiansen Invitational  Â
Hellbom led the charge with what was an overall solid performance from the men. The Swede put together a solid series capped off by a fifth throw 65.19-meters/213-feet-10.5. Hellbom earned a bronze medal in the weight throw just last month at the Mountain West Indoor Championships. Â
"It's definitely a process when switching from the weight to the hammer, you need to be gentler and speedier. Last season it took me a lot longer to get to 65 meters, so this is a great start to the year." Â
Kyle Bigley and Leonardo Ramos also put together strong showings in the hammer. Ramos returned from injury with a consistent series peaking at 55.21/181-1.5. Bigley's top throw was his final one at 58.03/190-4.5.Â
Borrman started her hammer throw campaign strong, recording a similar mark to Hellbom at 65.56/215-1. Borrman finished First-Team All-America just a few weeks back at NCAA Indoor Nationals, placing sixth in the weight throw. Â
"I want to get 70 meters this season and make outdoor nationals, as for small picture things I just want to be more consistent in the ring." Â
Klaire Kovatch and Makayla Long also had impressive days, the pair of which finished second and third, respectively. Kovatch peaked at a personal best throw of 59.49/195-2, good enough to land her at 13th in Colorado States record book.Â
Looking AheadÂ
The Rams are at home for tomorrow's full slate of events (May. 27) at the Jack Christiansen Track. Action starts at 9:45, kicking things off in the steeplechase. Â
