Rams challenged to the limit in hard-fought match
IRVINE, Calif – The Colorado State women's tennis team competed against UC Irvine on Saturday at the Anteaters' home courts in California. In a tightly contested matchup, the Rams fell 4-3.
The Rams earned three singles victories, highlighted by Luana Avelar at No. 1, who won the final set 7-6 in a 10-8 tiebreak. Sorcha Caves at No. 2 claimed a 6-3 win, while Annika Planinsek at No. 4 secured a three-set victory with set scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
In doubles play, Colorado State faced tough competition as UC Irvine claimed victories at positions No. 2 and No. 3. Leyla Tozin and Diana Lizarazo fell 6-1 at No. 2, while Dylan Voeks and Planinsek were defeated 6-4 at No. 3. The Rams' No. 1 doubles team, Avelar and Caves, battled to a 4-4 finish, but the match was left unfinished, leaving the team just short of a potential point. The doubles result ultimately played a key role in the closely contested outcome.
Colorado State will face UC Riverside on Sunday at 11 a.m., to conclude non-conference play before Mountain West play begins.
