Rams Dominate in Last Day of Beach Invite

Shukurani falls just shy of school record
CALIFORNIA – Colorado State track and field completed its California weekend on Saturday at the Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invite. Six events were won by Rams on the day with Ndayiragije Shukurnai and Makayla Long shooting up the all-time record book.Â

The Rams started the day with the 110-meter hurdles where Owen Langdon and Trenton Givens went 1-2. The duo went sub-14 with Langdon winning the event at 13.78 and Givens serving as a runner up at 13.88. On the women's side Neya Jamison finished fifth in the 100 hurdles with a 13.52, a personal best and the third best mark in CSU history. Annabella Palillian also recorded a personal best of 14.19.Â
Kenny Carpenter ran a 46.21 to win the 400-meter dash outright; the junior ranks second all-time at CSU in the event as he searches for the school record. Ashton Whisler finished in tenth with a time of 47.57.Â
Hurdles continued to be a strong spot for the Rams with Jamison finishing second place at 58.24. Jamison claimed the school record in the event last week at the Mines Mid-Week and Multis. Finishing in fifth on the day was Grace Lanfear at 59.58. Â
In the long jump Jo-Anna Pinnock jumped her way to second place with a personal best of 6.13-meters/20-feet-1.5. She moves to third best in school history in the event and ranks among the top 48 in the west region this season. Rhys Travis jumped 2.07/6-9.5 in the high jump which saw him finish third.Â
Men's triple jump saw Shukurani win by over five inches; the sophomore standout went horizontal for the first time this season debuting at 15.80/51-10. The outdoor personal best ranks as the second-best jump ever for CSU and just one inch shy of the record set by teammate Ismael Dembele. The mark sits as NCAA No. 17 and leads the conference.Â
Long won the women's shot put with an outdoor personal best of 17.10-56-1.25, the mark ranks 16th in the NCAA and moves her to fourth all time at CSU. Erin Brown also set a personal best on the day with her fifth attempt. Brown ranks in a tie for 12th all-time at Colorado State and ranks as the second-best thrower in the conference this season.Â
On the men's side, Kyle Bigley won the shot put with a fourth throw bomb of 18.29/60-0.25. Bigley ranks among the top 20 throwers in the west region this season. Leonardo Ramos followed Bigley in fourth with his fifth throw of 17.97/58-11.5.Â
