CSU closes nonconference play in Ogden and fall short to the Wildcats
OGDEN, Utah -- Colorado State dropped a 3-1 decision at Weber State on Friday in its nonconference finale.
The Rams put seven of their nine shots on goal and held the Wildcats scoreless through the first half, but a three-goal burst in an 11-minute span after the break proved the difference.
First Half
- Hanna McKay put CSU's first shot on goal in the ninth minute, forcing a save from Weber State goalkeeper Lauren Butorac during a physical opening stretch.
- Kennedy Albertson and Shadia Valenzuela kept Butorac busy with shots on frame in the 17th and 21st minutes, and the Rams earned a corner kick in the 23rd.
- Weber State's best look of the half came from Cloe Baugh in the 43rd minute, but CSU turned it away, and the teams went to the locker room level. The Rams held a 3-1 edge in shots on goal at the break.
Second Half
- The Wildcats came out of halftime pressing. They earned two corners and forced an Addison Huber save on Simone Packer in the 49th minute before Cadence Packer broke through a minute later.
- CSU responded in the 57th minute, when Mia Casey finished off a Kaja Dionne assist to draw the Rams level. The equalizer lasted just 24 seconds, as an own goal put Weber State back in front, and Lily Blum added the Wildcats' third in the 60th minute.
- The Rams kept pushing. Skylar Alonso, Dionne and Danielle Charleston each tested Butorac between the 74th and 81st minutes, but the Weber State keeper had an answer every time.
- Huber denied Cici Garcia in the 86th minute to keep the margin at two, and Weber State saw out the result.
Casey made her lone shot count, finding the net for her second goal of the season. Dionne was equally efficient, pairing the assist with a shot on goal of her own. Alonso led CSU with two shots, and Huber went the full 90 minutes with two saves. The Rams' seven shots on goal were greater than Weber State's five, and Butorac needed six saves to keep CSU at bay.
