Bio
Former Rams standout Jessa LaBarbera wrapped up her playing career in May 2015, but she didn’t have to wait long – or go far – for her next golf opportunity. Just two months later, CSU head coach Annie Young name LaBarbera her assistant coach. LaBarbera is now in her second season as an assistant coach in 2016-17.
During her debut season on the coaching staff, LaBarbera helped the Rams to several record-breaking performances, including a season stroke average of 297.72 – more than four strokes better than the previous best. Additionally, the Rams had three single-round scores rank in the school’s top-10 of its record brook, led by a school-record 9-under 279 at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout. That score was part of a three-round score of 849 (15-under) – also a school record.
LaBarbera helped coach freshman Katrina Prendergast, who’s remarkable freshman season included setting school records for a single-round score and season stroke average, in addition to finishing runner up at the Mountain West Championships and qualifying for NCAA Regionals.
LaBarbera, a native of Allen, Texas, began her collegiate career at CSU in 2011. In total, she competed in 32 tournaments, including 21 of 22 over her final two seasons. As a senior in 2014-15, she tied a career best with an even-par score of 72 at the Silverado Showdown, and at the Gold Rush Invitational, she carded a career-best 16th place (12-over 228).
Away from the course, LaBarbera was a three-time Academic All-Mountain West recipient and graduated in 2015 with a degree in human development and family studies.
YOUNG ON LABARBERA: “I’m really excited about having Jessa join our team in this capacity. She can be a huge asset for recruiting purposes because she can show the school very well and talk about experiences she’s had here. I’ve only been here for two years, so I was looking for somebody who can give us an edge in recruiting. She’s been through what our players will go through, and she can connect with them in a different way than I can. I think that’s only going to help our team. She’ll have some things to learn along the way, as we all do, but I think she’s going to be a big asset to the team.”
