CJ Rivers returned to the Colorado State men’s basketball program as an assistant coach in June of 2023. He previously was a graduate assistant for the Rams from 2019-21.
Since leaving Fort Collins in 2021, Rivers spent his time in Chicago working as the video coordinator for Loyola Chicago in 2021-22 and as an assistant coach this past season for Illinois-Chicago. Rivers helped the Ramblers of Loyola Chicago to a 25-8 record during his season there and a second straight conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
UIC competed in their first season in the Missouri Valley Conference during his lone year with the team. He helped produce second team All-Conference selection Jace Carter. Carter averaged 16.5 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Flames.
The Cahokia, Illinois native has plenty of report with Medved and his staff, having played for Medved during his senior season at Drake. As a four-year starter, he helped Drake to their first postseason appearance in 10 years when they advanced to the CBI in 2017-18 under Medved’s leadership.
Rivers played professionally for a season for the Sturt Sabres of the Premier League NBL 1 in Australia where he led the team in assists and steals.
He earned his bachelor's degree in broadcast news journalism from Drake and master’s degree in human resource studies at CSU.
