Shane Brown, who guided Houston Baptist University to back-to-back NAIA Final Four appearances in 2004 and `05, is now an assistant women[apos]s basketball coach at Colorado State University. [quote]Shane Brown is going to be a tremendous asset to our basketball program,[quote] said Warden. [quote]He brings experience and success as a head coach to our staff. He has had great success previously as an assistant coach at the Division I level, which provides our program additional recruiting and coaching experience. [quote]We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to hire someone of Shane[apos]s experience and reputation. I[apos]m excited he has chosen to be a part of our program.[quote] Brown coached five seasons at HBU, where he had a 166-24 record and won the regular season and conference tournament championships all five seasons. In addition, his squad had a 78-2 home record. Brown was named the conference coach of the year following each of the past three seasons. His 2005 squad finished 36-3 and won 34 games in a row at one point. The team was ranked No. 1 in the final regular-season poll. A year before, HBU was 33-5 and made the school[apos]s first-ever Final Four appearance. Houston Baptist won at least 31 games in each of his five seasons. Prior to coaching at Houston Baptist, Brown was an assistant women[apos]s coach at Rice University for 1998-2000. The Owls had a three-year record of 63-31 and won the Western Athletic Conference tournament that season, then defeated ninth-ranked UC-Santa Barbara in the first round of the NCAA Women[apos]s Basketball Tournament. Rice won at least 20 games in each of Brown[apos]s three seasons on the staff. He also was formerly the girl[apos]s basketball coach at Westbury Christian School in Houston from 1996-97, compiling a 57-14 record in two seasons. Westbury Christian won the state title in 1997, a season after reaching the semifinals of the state tournament. He also previously coached the Houston Insiders girls AAU travel team in 1996, and was formerly an assistant boy[apos]s coach at Westbury Christian in Houston from 1993-95. Brown earned a bachelor[apos]s degree in 1991 from Eastern Kentucky University, and in 1993, earned a master[apos]s degree from Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
