Fall Sports Review - Nov. 17

Colorado State sports teams have been hard at work over the past two weeks with football, volleyball, men?s and women?s basketball, swimming and diving, water polo and men?s and women?s cross country all competing over that stretch.
Football
The football team faced its most daunting task of conference play as the Rams met up with the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on Nov. 6. The Rams were down early, but kept fighting, and fell by a final score of 63-31 to move to 3-6 (2-3 MWC) on the season.
The following week, the team returned to the friendly confines of Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium, for the final home game of the season, as well as the final home game for 10 Rams? seniors. The team did not disappoint, defeating UNLV by a score of 45-10.
The football team, 4-6 (3-3 MWC) will conclude the season at Air Force (4-6, 2-4 MWC) on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Volleyball
The Rams volleyball team moved up two spots to No. 8 in the latest USA Today/CSTB Coaches? Top 25 poll after compiling a record of 3-1 over the past two weeks, and clinching a share of their sixth consecutive Mountain West Conference Championship.
The team fist hit the road, squaring off against Wyoming and No. 3 Nebraska on Nov. 5 and 7, respectively. The Rams made quick work of Wyoming with a 3-0 victory, but fell to the Huskers 0-3.
The following week, the team set out on its toughest road trip of the season, but picked up key victories over BYU (3-2) and Utah (3-0) to clinch the championship.
This week, Colorado State (22-3, 13-1 MWC) will play host to the MWC Conference Championships, and will face New Mexico (9-16, 3-11 MWC) at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18.
Men?s and Women?s Basketball
The men?s basketball and women?s basketball teams returned to the court for the first time in 2004. Both teams posted perfect 2-0 records in exhibition play.
The men?s team slipped by Northern State by a score of 80-77, followed by a 90-66 win over CSU-Pueblo. On the women?s side, the Rams defeated Western State College and UC-Colorado Springs by scores of 89-39 and 75-31, respectively.
Both teams will begin regular season play this week. The men start the season with three home games against Regis (Nov. 20), Northern Colorado (Nov. 22) and Nebraska-Omaha (Nov. 24).
The women will face San Francisco on Nov. 19, followed by a game at Notre Dame on Nov. 22.
Swimming and Diving
The swimming and diving team started off their dual meet schedule with a bang, defeating Colorado by a score of 156-81. The Rams finished at least first and second in every event.
Next up the Rams begin their conference schedule on the road at UNLV and at San Diego State on Nov. 20 and Nov. 22, respectively.
Water Polo
The Rams began the inaugural season of water polo at Colorado State in winning fashion. The team defeated Utah 17-7 on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Edora Pool and Ice Center in Fort Collins.
Cross Country
The men?s and women?s cross country teams competed in the NCAA Regionals which were held at Collindale Golf Course in Fort Collins on Nov. 13. The women placed third, while the men finished in the fifth spot. Both teams earned at-large bids to the NCAA Championships which will be held at Indiana State University on Nov. 22.
