After a close first game, the Colorado State volleyball dominated the last two games, sweeping the New Mexico Lobos, 30-26, 30-10, 30-16 to improve to 18-7 overall and 11-4 in Mountain West Conference play. New Mexico falls to 14-12 on the year and 6-9 in league action.
Colorado State was led by senior outside hitter Tess Rogers, who tallied her 1500th career kill with the fourth point of game two and set the new school record for matches in double figures in kills with 91. On the evening, she notched 11 kills. Fellow senior outside hitter Casey Bauer and freshman middle blocker Mekana Barnes tallied nine kills each and Barnes led the team with five blocks, while junior libero Katherine Whitney notched a match-high 17 digs and freshman setter Ashley Fornstrom tallied three aces.
"This was a really good match for us," said head coach Tom Hilbert. "Once we started siding out well and passing the ball well our blocking and serving could take over. We can disrupt a lot of teams with those tools and its good we got the match over in three games."
New Mexico was led by Kelly Therkelsen with six kills, while senior middle blocker Chelsea Sondrup tallied a match-high nine blocks and freshman libero Gayle Tripp led the team with 13 digs.
Colorado State closes out its home season with Air Force tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. The four seniors on the squad, Dre Downs, Amber Piel, Bauer and Rogers will be honored prior to the match.
