The Las Vegas Founders Collegiate Showdown proved to be a showcase for sophomore Chelsea Benton. Benton's tournament score of 210 ranks as the second-best individual tournament score in school history, right behind Lynette Duran who holds the school record of 209. Benton's score of 67 in the second round earned her another place in the Colorado State record books. She passed Trisha Quick and Lynette Duran, who previously held the lowest single-round scores of 68, and is now the sole record holder. Benton finished the tournament in a tie for third place, which is the best finish for the Rams during their fall season and a personal career best for Benton.
The team ended up in a tie for 11th place after shooting an 899 over the three rounds of play. UCLA grabbed the top spot as a team with a score of 840 (-24) with three of their five players earning places in the top five. Hannah Jun of UCLA came in first firing off a six-under-par 206.
Inspired by Benton's outstanding play, the other four members of the team all improved their standings after the final round of play. The most dramatic move came from sophomore Megan Chapman. Chapman climbed 12 spots up the leader board to finish the tournament in a tie for 41st place, shooting 77-76-72-225 over the three rounds. Kelly Brotherton moved up two spots with scores of 74-80-77-231 to finish in a tie for 55th place. Amber Ward's final round score of 77 and tournament total of 234 was good enough to move her up to positions to a tie for 63rd. Stefanie Ferguson shot her best round of the tournament, a 78, to move up to a tie for 73rd.
This was the final tournament of the fall season for the Rams. They will hit the links again on February 27, 2006 for the Fresno State Invitational in Fresno, Calif.
