Ram Tennis Defeats New Mexico State, 5-2

Colorado State women?s tennis defeated New Mexico State Saturday evening in front of a large crowd , 5-2. The win improves Colorado State?s record to 2-1 for the season and 3-9 all- time against the Aggies.
In a competitive No. 1 match, Dasha Zhurin defeated Isabelle Mignot, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. The win marks Zhurin?s first dual match singles win of the season. Along with Emily Kirchem, Zhurin also brought in a win against Lejla Porobic and Sandra Mayr in doubles play. Kirchem defeated Prorbic in No. 2 singles with a quick 6-1, 6-2 match. Kirchem remains undefeated in singles dual match play this year.
Freshman Anne Andersen won her first collegiate match in both singles and doubles play. She defeated Nicole Fintell, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot while Andersen and junior Carla Pallares got the second doubles win to recieve the doubles point over Anne Fagegaltier and Nicole Fintell, 8-6. Rounding out the wins was senior Alexandra Paganetti with a tie-breaker win over Violaine Rollet, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (3).
?We had the best crowd we?ve ever had and it really helped us,? Coach Jon Messick said, ?I am very pleased about the doubles play. It?s nice to go into singles with that point. The team really faught for it. As a coach, that?s all you can ask for.?
Colorado State faces University of Wisconsin on February 26th at 6:30 p.m. at the Miramont Sport Center. This is the first time they will meet in the programs? history.
