Ram Tennis heads to Las Vegas
The Colorado State women?s tennis team heads to Las Vegas, Nevada for spring break next week. This year?s trip will consist of four dual matches, the most the team has faced over the break recently. They begin on Monday, March 14 when they face Wisconsin- Green Bay who is 0-5 for this year?s dual season. Two of their losses were against nationally ranked opponents. Tuesday the Rams play Southern Utah who has not played a dual match this season. Southern Utah brings Kim Beynon who was last year?s team MVP and received all-Mid Conference honors. Next Colorado State duals Idaho State (0-3) and tries to improve on its 2-1 series record against the Bengals. The last match of the trip will be against Bradley who is 2-4 this season. Both Colorado State and Bradley faced Creighton earlier this season when the Rams defeated Creighton 6-1 and the Braves lost 0-7.
Colorado State Tennis Finishes 2-1
The Rams finished their most recent weekend of play 2-1 with wins over CSU- Pueblo and CU- Colorado Springs and a loss to #34 Wisconsin. The Rams won 7-0 over both CSU-Pueblo and CU-Colorado Springs. Dasha Zhurin and Anne Andersen had stellar performances over CU-Colorado Springs not dropping one game in singles or double play. All of the Ram doubles teams finished the day victorious. Against #34 Wisconsin, the Rams struggled only winning one set on the night with Anne Andersen winning over Lindsay Martin at the No. 3 post.
Next on the Schedule
Ram tennis travels to Utah March 24-26 where they will have two Mountain West Conference matches along with one nonconference match. They will begin the trip against Utah State and then travel to face the #24-ranked BYU Cougars and the Utah Utes.
Ram Notes:
-Sophomore Emily Kirchem leads the team in singles play with a 9-6 overall record and a 5-1 dual record. All of her dual matches have been at the No. 2 position.
-Junior Carla Pallares and freshman Anne Andersen hold the best doubles record with a 2-0 mark at the No. 3 position.
-Colorado State is 0-1 against nationally ranked opponents this dual season with the loss to Wisconsin.
-The Rams have not faced any conference opponents yet this year.
-Colorado State tennis set a record with two Mountain West Conference Players of the Week this season, Emily Kirchem on January 26th and Dasha Zhurin on Feb. 16th. This is the second time Kirchem has been awarded and it is Zhurin?s first nod as Player of the Week.
