Colorado State University tight end Joel Dreessen was selected by the New York Jets Sunday in the sixth round (198th selection) of the annual NFL draft selection process.

The two-time first-team All-Mountain West Conference from Fort Morgan, Colo., played in the Senior Bowl all-star game at the conclusion of the 2004 season.

"I am very excited," Dreessen said Sunday. "You always wish it would come (selection) sooner in the draft, but I'm excited."

Dreessen was a four-year starter at Colorado State as a tight end/H-back. He had 122 career receptions for 1,293 yards and 10 touchdowns, second most receptions in history by a tight end behind Keli McGregor's record, 153. McGregor, an All-American in 1984, is now the president of the Colorado Rockies baseball club.

Dreessen caught a career-most 43 passes for 427 yards and three touchdowns in 2004. Twice in 2004, he caught six passes in game, against both Minnesota and Utah.

Dreessen is the 43rd player in coach Sonny Lubick's 12 seasons as head coach to be either drafted or sign as a free agent with an NFL team.
