Jan. 14, 2006

The Colorado State University women's basketball team fell to 7-7 (1-2 MWC) with a 76-54 loss to Utah in Salt Lake City on Saturday afternoon. The Utes improved to 11-4 (2-2 MWC) with the victory.

The Rams kept it close for the majority of the first half, trailing by only two points, 15-13 at the midway point of the first half. However, the Rams would then go on a seven-minute scoreless drought that allowed the Utes to push the lead to 10 points, 23-13 and Colorado State trailed at halftime, 35-22.

Colorado State continued to struggle against a tough Utah defense in the second half as the Utes opened up the second half on a 15-6 run and led by 22 points, 50-28 with 12 minutes remaining in the game.

The Rams and Utes battled back and forth, but Colorado State was unable to gain any ground, falling by that same 22-point margin.

Colorado State was held to a 34.6 percent (18-for-52) clip shooting from the floor, while allowing Utah to shoot 45.9 (28-for-61) from the floor.

Senior Lindsay Thomas led the way for the Rams, dropping a game-high 14 points and pulling down five rebounds. Vanessa Espinoza pitched in with eight points in the loss as did Marilyn Moulton off the bench for the Rams and Melissa Dennett and Molly Nohr added six points each.

Next up, the Rams will host UNLV at 7 p.m. on January 18.
