Rams Earn 67-50 Victory Over Boise State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State men's basketball team forced 23 Boise State turnovers and broke open a four-point halftime lead to go on to defeat the visiting Broncos 67-50 in non-conference basketball action Monday night in Moby Arena.
The Rams and Broncos remained close throughout the opening stanza exchanging the lead six times and finding themselves tied four instances. CSU then turned a one-point BSU lead to a six-point Colorado State advantage on a Ram 7-0 run culminating with under a minute to play in the first.
CSU then extended its lead to 10 when the clock read 17:27 in the second and held off the Broncos before capturing the 17-point victory.
'"I thought it was a hard fought game," said CSU Head Coach Dale Layer following Monday's win. "I don't think either team came away saying everything went their way. I thought it was intense and the teams made good plays."
Freshman Xavier Kilby led the Rams with a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds in the game. Junior guard Tyler Smith added 12 points and six steals while guard Tim Denson added 10 points on the night. Stuart Creason tied for team honors with seven rebounds. He also had eight points in the game.
"We have a lot of very talented players on our team," commented Kilby. "I was just trying to contribute as much as possible and in any way I can."
Reggie Larry led Boise State with 11 points and 10 rebounds. BSU's top scorer was Matt Nelson who netted 15 points on the night.
CSU, who committed 22 turnovers, forced 23 by Boise State. The Rams shot 44.2 percent on 23-of-52 from the floor while Boise State was 19-of-52 (.365) while hitting only 2-of-16 threes. The Rams won the rebounding battle corralling 39 rebounds to the Broncos' 28.
Colorado State will have to wait nine days for its next competition when they take on the University of Denver in Denver on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
