Holiday Inn Team Invitational Results

The Colorado State track & field teams split into two squads this weekend, with 21 members heading to Boise, Idaho for the Holiday Inn Team Invitational and the rest going to the Colorado School of Mines Open in Golden. Also, senior Nicole Feest was the lone Ram competitor at the Washington Husky Classic, finishing 10th in the 5000 meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time and school record time of 16:26.16. She breaks the previous school record of 16:31.81 held by Sarah Piccolo from 1997.

True freshman Chantelle Dron provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with her winning time in the mile, leading a trio of Rams across the finish line in 4:46.73. Junior Danielle Korb narrowly missed qualifying, running a 4:47.59 and freshman Kristen Hemphill was third in 4:58.42. Junior Janay DeLoach again won both of her events, winning the 60 meters with a time of 7.47 and the long jump with a leap of 20-4.5. Senior Jill McCormick was also a double champion, winning the shot put and the weight throw. Junior Megan Fox finished third in both the 200 and 400 meters, while junior Katie Lloyd was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 8.86.

Junior Drew Morano won the men's 400 meters with the second fastest time in school history, running a 47.61. Junior Rob Watson was also victorious, winning the 3000 meters in 8:13.21, while freshman Scott Sanders was second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.56. Senior Justin Hazzard also finished second, running an 8.20 in the 60 meter hurdles. The men's throwers continued to dominate competition with senior Matt McKinney, senior Nate Heyrman and junior Trey Eder sweeping the top three spots in the shot put and Eder winning with weight throw with Heyrman third and senior Jace Rivera fifth.

At the Colorado School of Mines Open, sophomore Steve Swartz won the 800 meters, while Jeff Wahl won the mile and was second overall and the top collegian in the 3000 meters. In the mile, Wahl led a trio of Rams across the tape, with Ryan Kirkpatrick and Andres Urbina taking second and third, respectively. Freshman David Eischeid, junior Denny Majerus and sophomore Jarelle Johnson swept the top three spots in the long jump, while sophomore Alex Godell won the shot put and Jason Schutz and Godell took the top two collegiate spots and were second and third overall in the weight throw.

For the women, Rebekah Yetzer, Ashlee Velez and Melissa Thomas were the first three to cross the tape in the mile, while freshman Erin Weber won the 3000 meters. The Rams took the top three spots in the high jump, with Anne McLaughlin winning at 5-8 and Rae Backes and Jenny Higgason placing 2-3, respectively. Sophomore Ashleigh Morton won the pole vault after clearing a personal best 11-6 and the Rams took the top five spots in the weight throw. Jaimee Troth won the weight throw and was the top collegian and second overall in the shot put. Behind Troth in the weight throw were Haley Hunt in second, Stacey Poulos in third and Mindy Parsons and Katie Hansen rounding out the quintet. Junior Stacy Hancock finished second in both the long jump and triple jump, and was the top collegian in both events, posting career bests in both.

Next weekend the Rams will be in Laramie on Friday for the Robert Shine Invitational, hosted by the University of Wyoming.
