Rams' Tennis overcomes Wyoming

The Colorado State women's tennis team overcame Wyoming in a tough 4-3 match today. The Rams are now 9-8 on the season and 2-2 in Mountain West Conference play.
Anne Andersen and Emily Kirchem began the day for the Rams by overpowering Karolina Rowinski and Andrea House at No. 1 doubles in an 8-0 match. At No. 2 doubles, Carla Pallares and Lauren Strasburger beat Corina Lazer and Amy Senko 8-5, while Jessica Jones and Jasmin Singh defeated Patricia Chien and Michelle Brown at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
The Rams then took the momentum of sweeping the doubles play into the singles play to win in the match in the first four matches played. At No. 3 singles, Strasburger quickly took Jamie Nelson, 6-1, 6-4. Kirchem then outplayed Karolina Rowinski at No. 1 to beat her 6-1, 6-1. Andersen scored the last team point by defeating Chien at No. 2, 6-1, 7-5.
Jones, who has been battling injury this season, finished her match against Lazer, but lost at the end of the day, 6-4, 7-6 (7). Sarah Seltsam fell to Senko at No. 6, 6-3, 6-3. Pallares was defeated by House at No.4, 6-4, 6-1.
"It was tough for us to come out and play after losing to Denver," said Coach Jon Messick, "the kids did a good job at playing well against a tough Wyoming team."
"I am pleased with Jessica's performance at No. 5 to finish her match after dealing with injury this season. It was good for her confidence and the tea going into the conference season."
The Rams travel to San Diego, Calif., this weekend to take on No. 31 San Diego State and No. 45 UNLV.
