Benton Moves to Fourth Place at MWC Championship

St. George, Utah - Colorado State sophomore Chelsea Benton moved into a tie for fourth place overall after firing an even-par 72 in the second round of the Mountain West Conference Championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah Friday.
Benton, a Highlands Ranch, Colo. native, followed up an opening-round 77 with Friday's 72 marking the second-best round of the tournament so far behind TCU's Catherine Matranga's second-round 71. Ram junior Amber Ward also carded a nice score on Friday with a three-over 75 putting her in a tie for 14th with a two-day score of 152 (+8).
CSU's Stefanie Ferguson is tied for 24th with a two-round score of 156 (+12) while sophomore Megan Chapman had a three-over 75 on Friday and is in 27th with a 13-over 157. Freshman Karen Wanersdorfer improved her score six strokes in the second round and is in 33rd with an 84-78--162.
CSU followed Thursday's 311 (+23) with a second-round 302 (+14) putting the team at a 37-over, 613, 19 strokes behind team leader UNLV. TCU's Matranga leads the individual standings with rounds of 73 and 71.
Play concludes Saturday with the final round of the MWC Championship.
