Benton Finishes 10th, Rams Sixth at MWC Championship

St. George, Utah - Colorado State sophomore Chelsea Benton carded a final round 78 en route to a tie for 10th place in the 2006 Mountain West Conference Championship at Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah Saturday. Benton's three-round score was a 77-72-78=227 (+11) while CSU finished with team scores of 291-302-321=934 (+70) to finish in sixth place.
Following Benton's 10th-place finish, junior Amber Ward had a final-round 78 to complete a three round total of 230 (+14) to complete the tournament tied for 14th.
Freshman Stefanie Ferguson recorded a 237 (+21) after Saturday's round to 81 to finish 27th while Megan Chapman had an 84 Saturday to complete the tournament tied for 28th with a 241 (+25). Freshman Karen Wanersdorfer came in 33rd for the Rams with a 254 (+38) with a final round 92.
UNLV repeated as conference Champion with rounds of 291-303-301=895 (+31) beating out second place New Mexico by five strokes.
Rebel Da Sol Chung claimed individual honors defeating a pair of New Mexico golfers, Py Bengtsson and Mikaela Backstedt, in the first hole of a sudden death playoff. She had rounds of 76-73-73=222 (+6).
