Fort Collins, Colo. - The Colorado State women's golf team began its 2006-07 season Monday by hosting the first day of the Ptarmigan/Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins. The Rams are currently in third place midway through the second round after play was called due to darkness.

The Rams fired a first-round 292 and were tied for fourth after one round and are currently 13-over par and in third place one stroke ahead of San Jose State and 11 strokes behind current leader Colorado. Defending tournament champion, Baylor is in second just two strokes behind CU.

Megan Chapman, who led through much of the second round, is tied for third going into the second day after an opening round 68. She is currently two-under par and is two strokes off the leader, Jennifer Shipley of Fresno State and one stroke behind Colorado's Julie Kim.

Natalie Stone, who is competing as an individual, is in eighth after a round one 72. She remains at even par after day one.

Freshman Kasey Claussen is tied for 18th. She shot a two-over 74 in the first round and is now at four-over-par. Senior Amber Ward is tied for 23rd carding a one-over 73 and moving to five-over in the second round. CSU's junior all-Mountain West selection Chelsea Benton is tied for 26th after shooting a 77 in the first round. She is one-over in the second round to put her at six-over for the tournament.

Sophomore Stafanie Ferguson rounds out the Ram scoring with a 79 in round one. She was 11-over when play was called.

Play resumes Tuesday morning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the 6,223-yard par 72 Ptarmigan Country Club. Play was delayed for nearly two hours due to lightning and rain in the area pushing play back until darkness.
