Track & Field Starts Weekend Split In Boulder

Colorado State junior Alex Godell threw a personal best 59-7 to win the weight throw and begin the weekend on the right foot for the track and field team, which split into two squads.
Freshmen Kristen Kugler and Sonni Russell each cleared 5-3 to win the high jump and redshirt freshman Ryan Billups jumped 22-1 to win the long jump and 44-0.5 to post the top collegiate distance (second overall) in the triple jump.
Freshman Chardae Hancock finished second among collegians (third overall) in the 60 meter hurdles, while redshirt freshman Jessica Bruha was the second collegian and fifth overall in the 60 meters. Freshman Kendall Evans also finished as the second collegian and fifth overall in the 200 meters, while freshman Teresa Bell was second among college athletes and third overall in the 800 meters.
For the men, freshman Cole Tucker finished second in the 400 meters, while freshman Grant Duin was second among collegians and third overall in the 800 meters, freshman Rob Marin was second in the 60 hurdles and freshman Kevin Wills was second in the high jump. Senior Denny Majerus, before straining a hamstring, jumped 21-3.5 to finish second in the long jump.
The rest of the Colorado State track & field team is in Lincoln, Nebraska and will compete tomorrow in the Conference Challenge, a five-team meet pitting the Big XII Conference against the Mountain West Conference.
