Water Pik is proud to sponsor the Colorado State University Excellence in Education Award.
This program highlights excellence in the classroom by Colorado State University student-athletes and professors. The recipients are presented the Water Pik Excellence in Education award at each home football game.
Professor - Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips is a professor in the Department of Speech Communication at CSU. Dennis received his M.A. and Ph.D. in radio-television from Ohio University and his B.A. from Hiram College in Ohio where he also played football and baseball. He has been teaching at Colorado State since 1972, currently serving as a full professor and was department chair from 2001 to 2005. He also professionally served as the play-by-play announcer from Colorado State Men's and Women's Basketball and Volleyball from 1980-1983. He has written 4 books and numerous articles, as well as receiving many special awards including the State Board of Agriculture Excellence in Teaching Award and Colorado State University Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Award. Student-Athlete - Hilary Tyler
This week's student-athlete Waterpik Excellence in Education winner is Hilary Tyler, a senior on the CSU Women's Tennis team majoring in Speech Communications. In the 2006-2007 season, Tyler and her teammate Emily Kirchem, went 17-1 in dual doubles play and 22-2 overall. Her 22 doubles victories ranks 1st for doubles victories in a season at CSU. Also in her 2006-2007 season, Hilary was named MWC scholar-athlete and MWC Academic All-Conference. Hilary is from Grand Junction, CO and is the daughter of Steve and Sandy Tyler.
