The Colorado State track & field team competed at both the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash., and the Colorado School of Mines open in Golden today.

Junior Drew Morano highlighted the day for the men, provisionally qualifying and winning the 400 meters with a time of 46.96, missing the CSU record by just .01 and posting the second fastest time in Mountain West Conference history. He also placed fourth overall and was second in his heat in the 200 meters, clocking a 21.48.

Senior Nicole Feest highlighted the day for the women, provisionally qualifying in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:27.74, narrowly missing her own school record of 16:26.16 from last year.

At the Husky Invitational, senior Janay DeLoach finished fourth in the 60 meters, tying her season best in the prelims with a 7.48. Freshman Tanesha Johnson won her heat of the 200 meters, posting a season best time of 25.29, while senior Megan Fox posted a season best time of 55.59 to place second in her heat of the 400 meters. Junior April Thomas just missed the provisional qualifying time in the 5000 meters, clocking in at 16:44.11 to finish 10th. DeLoach also finished third in her flight, and tops among collegians in the long jump, leaping 19-8.25.

Sophomore Kyle Keeler also won his heat in the 400 meters, timing a season best 49.22. Senior Kevin Johnson finished second in his final heat of the 60 hurdles, running an 8.21 and he also jumped 22-8.5 in the long jump.

Junior Jason Smith finished third in his flight of the triple jump, leaping 47-9.25, while junior Magnus Lohse, competing in his first indoor competition since 2005, finished fourth in his flight of the shot put, throwing 56-10. Senior Trey Eder surpassed the NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw, finishing fifth at 64-5.25, but not quite a season best for the Ram. Junior Jason Schutz, however, did throw a season best at 63-0 to place seventh.

At the CSM Open, junior Danielle Rawlings won the 3000 meters, running a personal best time of 10:48.26. Freshman Jessica Bruha was the top collegian and second overall in the 200 meters. Ali Taylor placed second in the mile, while freshman Chadae Hancock and junior Niomi Ridge placed second and third, respectively in the 60 meter hurdles.

Both freshman Sonni Russell and senior Rae Backes cleared 5-5 to win the high jump, while Ashleigh Morton and Kate Colvin were second and third, respectively in the pole vault. Senior Haley Hunt finished second in the shot put and won the weight throw.

Freshman Sulaiman Sayyid and Denny Majerus finished fifth and sixth overall in the men's 60 meters, but posted the top two collegian times, while Sayyid was also the top collegian and third overall in the 200 meters. Fellow freshman Cole Tucker won the 400 meters, while junior Steve Swartz was victorious in the mile.

Freshman Kevin Wills won the high jump, clearing 6-6.75 for a career best and Majerus and sophomore Davie Eischeid finished second and third overall and as the top two collegiate athletes in the long jump. Majerus jumped a season best 22-8, while Eischeid has a season best leap of 22-4.5. Freshman Tyson Williams finished second in the shot put behind Nate Heyrman, who is out of indoor eligibility for the Rams. Junior Alex Godell also finished second behind Heyrman, this time in the weight throw.

Colorado State will have a light week next week, with several Rams competing Friday at the Robert Shine Invitational, hosted by the University Wyoming. The next big competition for CSU is the Mountain West Conference Championships Feb. 22-24, hosted by New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
