CSU Tennis Sweeps Colgate, Earns 7-0 Victory

Hilton Head, S.C.-The Rams earned their second victory of the season over Colgate University in their first match of the spring break trip.
The Rams earned a team point in doubles competition, winning at each of the doubles positions. At No. 1 doubles, Kirchem/Tyler improved to 4-0 on the season, with a victory over Couture/DeRose, 8-1. At No. 2, Neal/Strasburger defeated Inacker/Thaney, 8-2. At the No.3 doubles position, Pohjalainen/Stople beat Fenn/Williams, 8-5, and advanced to 3-0 in dual doubles competition.
The Rams swept singles play, earning each of the possible six team points. At No. 1 singles, Emily Kirchem earned a victory over Jackie Couture, 6-2, 6-1, and moved to 1-1 in singles play this season. At No. 2, Lauren Strasburger beat Elise DeRose, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 3 position, Laura Neal defeated Samantha Inacker, 6-2, 6-2, and improved to 4-2 in dual play. At No. 4, Hilary Tyler beat Erin Fenn, 6-0, 6-1; now holding a 3-3 singles record. At No. 5 singles, Anette Pohjalainen advanced to 5-1 in 2007 with her win over Cameron Thaney, 6-1, 6-1. Finally, at the No. 6 position, Greer Satherlie defeated Jackie Stimmel, 6-2, 6-0.
"The scores look one-sided, but we had some competition," head coach Jon Messick commented. "We played hard and were really focused, we didn't let the match get close."
The Rams return to the court tomorrow at noon, when they face the Dayton Flyers in the second of a three-game spring break trip.
