Rams Surge into Fourth, Benton Seventh

OAHU, Hawai'i - The Colorado State women's golf team jumped up four places after having the lowest second round of the field and sit in fourth place Wednesday after 36 holes at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Club in Oahu, Hawai'i.

 

The Ram's second-round score of 300 was the lowest of the 13-team field and helped the team move into a three-way tie for fourth place, 17 strokes behind the leader. The team recorded a 318 in the first round of play. Tied with the Rams are Ohio State and conference-rivals BYU.

 

Junior Chelsea Benton sits tied for seventh place after firing rounds of 73 and 76, good for a two-round total of 150. Benton is seven strokes behind the leader, Gerina Mendoza of UTEP. Megan Chapman recorded rounds of 79 and 74 and is tied for 14th place. Kasey Claussen (81-76=157) is tied for 29th and Stefanie Ferguson (81-77=158) sits in a tie for 33rd place. Rounding out scoring for the Rams is Amber Ward (84-80=164), who is tied for 56th place.

 

Arizona leads Texas A&M by one stroke going into the final round Wednesday. In third is Rollins College, which sits seven strokes back.
