DeLoach Earns All-American Honors

March 9, 2007

Colorado State senior Janay DeLoach became the first student-athlete in the jumps in school history to earn All-American honors, finishing fifth at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships today.

DeLoach leaped 20-9.25, the second best jump of her career to finish her indoor career as an All-American and keep the string of CSU All-Americans alive. The Rams have had at least one indoor All-American every year since 2000 and in 14 of the last 15 seasons.

Senior Kevin Johnson is also in 10th place in the heptathlon after the first day of competition. Johnson opened the day running a 7.16 in the 60 meters, then jumped 22-6.25 in the long jump, threw 42-2.75 in the shot put and cleared 6-3.5 in the high jump for a four-event total of 2,997 points. Ninth place Chris Helwick of Tennessee is just three points ahead of Johnson.

Sophomore Rhonda Watkins of UCLA won the women's long jump with a leap of 21-6.75, while Texas senior Donovan Kilmartin currently leads the heptathlon with 3,316 points.

Johnson concludes his indoor career tomorrow with the final three events of the heptathlon, while senior Katie Lloyd also competes in her final indoor meet, taking on the field in the pentathlon.
