CSU Tennis Bounces Back, Kirchem Wins on Senior Day

The Colorado State women's tennis team defeated the Montana Grizzlies by a final score of 5-2 today. The Rams move to 8-11 (1-7 MWC) on the season.
In doubles, the Rams won at the No. 1 position, but failed to pick up the team point, losing at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 1, Kirchem/Tyler won their eighth straight doubles match, their first win of the streak dating back to March 25th. The pair earned victory number 20 on the season, defeating Walker/Castello, 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, Pohjalainen/Strasburger fell to Ursich/Paulson, 8-2, to move to 3-2 in 2007. At the No. 3 position, Satherlie/Stople lost to Souza/Nowak, 8-6.
Today was also senior day for Emily Kirchem. She was honored between the doubles and singles matches for all her achievements on and off the court.
In singles play, the Rams battled back to take five of the six points and the match win. At the No. 1 position, Emily Kirchem picked up win number 14 on the year, defeating Liz Walker in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2, Lauren Strasburger her first win since April 1st; she defeated Mari Castello, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, Hilary Tyler beat Danni Paulson, 6-0, 6-1; Tyler improves to 16-11 on the season. At No. 4 singles, Anette Pohjalainen moved to 10-11 after beating Cheyne Ursich, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. At the No. 5 position, Greer Satherlie earned her 10th victory of the year over Martyna Nowak, 6-4, 7-6 (4). At the No. 6 position, Kirsten Stople fell to Kayla Moyse 6-3, 6-4.
The Rams finish their regular on Wednesday when they take on Northern Colorado at 2:30pm in Greeley.
