The Colorado State women's tennis team will step out of conference play on Friday to face New Mexico State at Greeley Workout West. The Rams will then take on Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo., on Saturday.
The 6-8 (1-4 MWC) Rams are looking to return to .500 on the season, where they haven't been since March 24th, losing four of their last five matches. However, the Rams are coming off a 6-1 defeat of Air Force on April 1st. In the match, CSU won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, and picked up five of six singles points, losing only at the No. 4 position. The Rams currently have four players with double digit wins; Emily Kirchem, Laura Neal, Lauren Strasburger, and Hilary Tyler. Tyler leads the way for the Rams with 14 victories this season. As a team, the Rams are 73-73 overall, and 42-41 in dual play this season. In doubles, Kirchem and Tyler have teamed up for a team-high 10 victories, while only dropping one match thus far; the pair is 13-2 overall. Kirchem and Tyler have won their last three doubles matches at the No. 1 position; wins earned over Air Force, Utah, and SDSU. CSU is 41-26 as a team in doubles play, and 25-14 in dual competition.
New Mexico State enters the match against the Rams with a 7-11 record. The Aggies have lost five of their past six matches and have faced four nationally ranked teams in UNLV, SMU, New Mexico, and Sacramento State. In addition to facing UNLV and New Mexico, the Aggies have also competed against Mountain West Conference opponents Wyoming and Utah this season, losing both.
Wyoming holds a 5-11 (1-4 MWC) record and has lost its past five matches. The Cowgirls' last win dates back to March 14th, when they defeated Stetson, 5-2. Wyoming is coming off a 6-1 loss to Utah, in which they won their only point at No. 2 singles.
The match tomorrow against New Mexico State has been moved, and the start time changed, due to the likely event of inclement weather. The match will now be played at Greeley Workout West at 2pm.
