LAS VEGAS (AP) - Wink Adams scored 23 points to lead UNLV to a 68-51 victory over Colorado State on Saturday, giving head coach Lon Kruger his 400th career win.
Adams also had six assists and five rebounds to help lead the Rebels (18-5, 7-2 Mountain West). Rene Rougeau pitched in with 17 points and six rebounds.
It was Kruger's second attempt at win No. 400 as UNLV lost Wednesday at Utah, 81-73. Kruger now has a record of 400-272 in 22 seasons.
"Anytime you win, it feels great," Kruger said. "A lot of people share in this. We've had good teams. We like what this team is doing."
Kruger, who is in his fourth season as UNLV's coach, has an overall record of 82-39 with the Rebels. He took UNLV to a Sweet 16 appearance a year ago with a 30-7 record.
"It's a big deal," Adams said of Kruger's win. "He never hyped it up. We knew about it when we're going to Utah. We had to make it special for him today."
Prior to his stint in Las Vegas, he coached in the NBA for the Atlanta Hawks (2000-03) and was an assistant to the New York Knicks ('03-'04). Before the NBA, he spent 18 seasons as a head coach at Pan American (1982-86), Kansas State ('86-'90), Florida ('90-'96), and Illinois ('96-'00). Kruger guided the 1993-94 Florida Gators to the NCAA Final Four.
Marcus Walker led Colorado State (6-17, 0-9) with a game-high 24 points. Walker, the conference?s scoring leader at 18.3 per game, was 4-of-9 from 3-point range and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. He also had seven rebounds.
UNLV never trailed in the game, jumping to an 8-0 lead. The Rams later cut the lead to 20-16, but the Rebels went on an 11-0 run to end the half with Adams scoring eight of those 11. UNLV's lead never went below 15 points in the second half and the team built their largest lead at 58-32 with 10:36 left.
The Rams lost their 11th straight game dating back to Dec. 29 and haven't won a road game this season.
