LINCOLN, Neb. - - The Colorado State women's tennis team finished its first day of competition in Nebraska, sweeping the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 7-0, at the Nebraska Tennis Center. The Rams came away Saturday with a 6-0 singles record and a 3-0 doubles record.

"I thought that the girls did a really good job of stepping up and playing hard today," said Head Coach Jon Messick. "We were a little disappointed with our loss against Kansas State last Sunday and felt that Eastern Michigan was similar in quality to Kansas State. This week we worked on a few things and I really believe the girls responded well."

In singles, Lauren Strasburger defeated Miriam Westerink, 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 1 position. Laura Neal earned a victory against Karina Ahuja at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-3. At the No. 3 position Tori Arneson was down early against Xu Chang but didn't let that bother her, winning the match in the third set, 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10).

Caitlin Fluegge swept against Joanna Woo at the No. 4 position, 6-0, 6-0. Greer Satherlie also struggled in the beginning of the match but turned it around as well in a third set, earning a victory against Marcela Rivero, 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (5). Kirsten Stople, playing at the No. 6 position, defeated Rumbidzai Muskwe, 6-3, 6-2.

"We came from behind in the singles at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions," said Messick. "I am very pleased with how Arneson and Satherlie kept after it. We had already clinched the match with the two still playing but it was important for them to continue to play hard."

In the doubles, all three doubles teams came from behind to win. Arneson/Strasburger defeated Westerink/Woo, 8-5 at the No.1 spot. Neal/Stople defeated Ahuja/Chang 8-3, at the No. 2 position and at the No. 3 position Fluegge/Satherlie earned a victory against Rivero/Muskwe, 8-4.

The Rams will return to the court Sunday at 11 a.m. MST to face off with the Nebraska Huskers at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
