PROVO, Utah – Colorado State (26-25, 7-8 MWC) scored five unanswered runs in the final three innings to defeat BYU (39-16, 12-2 MWC) Saturday, 7-5, at Miller Park.

The Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, but Colorado State cut the lead in half in the top of the second. Senior Shannon Causgrove led off the inning with a single and scored when freshman Ashley MacQueen singled down the right-field line. Sophomore Caitlan Stem gave the Rams their second run when she reached on an error by the BYU second baseman and plated junior Robyn Mask, who singled earlier in the inning.

The Cougars added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning after Tiffany Messerschmidt tripled to plate Kristin Delahoussaye from first.

Colorado State answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run home run by junior Allison Majam.

The Rams tied the game at 5-5 in the following frame off of two BYU errors and took the lead in the top of the seventh inning after Causgrove singled up the middle with the bases loaded to plate freshman Christine Thomsen and Majam. Thomsen and Majam recorded back-to-back singles earlier in the inning and advanced when sophomore Ivory Allen walked to load the bases.

Senior Kim Klabough (8-2) relieved freshman Dani Chaplin in the first inning and tossed 6.2 innings while only allowing one run. She retired the final three BYU batters in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 7-5 victory and record her eighth win of the season.

“I am very proud of how our kids played today,” Colorado State Head Coach Mary Yori said. “Kim and Shannon made key plays for us and ended their college careers on a positive note.”
