FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State tennis team (1-1, 0-0 MWC) bounced back from its loss to No. 49 Denver on Jan. 22 to sweep the Portland State Vikings (0-3, 0-1 Big Sky), 7-0, Saturday night at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness South.

The Rams began the night up 2-0 on the Vikings due to a forfeit at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles position because of injury. The Vikings also were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match.

Senior Laura Neal and sophomore Tori Arneson defeated Portland State's Caitlin Stockings and Anya Dalkin at the No.1 doubles position to begin the night, 8-2. Next, sophomores Lauren Mulhern and Veronika Wojakowska earned their seventh win of the season, defeating Tara Vidali and Kylea Gleason of the Vikings, 8-5, to give the Rams a 3-0 advantage going into singles competition.

Playing at the No. 4 singles position, Mulhern continued her winning streak, defeating Gleason, 6-0, 6-0, and clinching the match for CSU.

At the No. 1 position Neal earned her first victory of the dual season, playing opposite of Portland State's Stockings. Neal defeated Stockings in two sets, 6-3, 6-0.

The Vikings' Dalkin gave Arneson a tough second set at the No. 2 position, but the CSU sophomore maintained her composure to overcome Dalkin in two sets, 6-2, 6-4, to put the Rams up 6-0.

Wojakowska completed the sweep for the Rams, defeating Vidali of Portland State in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (6).

"The team played well; everybody played well on every court," Head Coach Jon Messick said. "A team like Portland State, if we hadn't played really well, they would have given us a lot of trouble. On every court our players came out ready to play and did not let Portland State get back into it."

Next up, Colorado State will continue its homestand at Miramont, Feb. 7, at 10 a.m. against the Montana Grizzlies. Admission is free.
