FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Colorado State women's tennis team will travel to Nebraska this weekend for a pair of back-to-back duals Saturday and Sunday, matching up first against No. 26 Nebraska.
The Rams will face the Cornhuskers (6-1) on Saturday at 11 a.m. MST. They will then return to the courts Sunday to play Creighton (3-3) at 11 a.m. Both matches will be held in Lincoln, Neb., at the Nebraska Tennis Center.
CSU comes into play this weekend after a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo. Despite the loss, the Rams saw a lot of opportunity for improvement for this weekend's matches.
Melissa Holzinger holds the Rams’ best singles record, 4-2.
In last season's matchup against the Huskers (ranked No. 49 in last season's dual), the Rams fell 6-1. The sole win for Colorado State in both singles came at the No. 6 position. Holzinger defeated her Nebraska opponent in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-2.
The Bluejays will play two matches Sunday, first facing the Rams and then meeting against the Huskers. Creighton comes into the weekend's duals after sustaining a 4-3 loss to Arkansas-Little Rock on Feb. 23.
Nebraska on the other hand comes into match play victorious. Nebraska clinched a 4-3 victory over the Wichita State Shockers on Feb. 16. The Huskers currently hold a 4-0 home record and the team's only loss this season came against No. 20 Northwestern in a 7-0 sweep.
Colorado State's next home match will be Kid's Day, held March 5 against Montana State, at 6 p.m. MST. The match will be offered free to the public and will take place indoors at Miramont Lifestyle Fitness, 901 Oakridge Dr. in south Fort Collins behind Sam's Club.
