(on tonight’s loss)
“Hawai’i’s a tough team. They’re really tough and physical and I think they were just more the aggressor tonight. It’s sad to say, but they just came out and out-muscled us sadly. I think we’ll learn from it, it just sucks to start off this way.”
(on improvements for the rest of the season)
“Rebounds and really get into the scout. We knew that all they could really do was get to the basket. We could’ve done a better job taking that away and making them shoot more outside shots. We didn’t stick to our plan, but it was a good plan.”
(on Keyora Wharry’s performance more specifically her shooting)
“They’ll start to drop. A couple of them were in and out. She’s really athletic and a good player, but unfortunately it doesn’t go in every night. She’ll be fine.”
(on pre-season expectations)
“I don’t think there was extra weight for me personally. I think as a team we understand the expectations, we just have to perform them. It’s all about performing. We’re usually pretty balanced in scoring. We just had to get everyone’s numbers up and we would’ve been fine.”
(on fatigue during the game)
“It was pretty exhausting. We were tired, but moments like that we need to be mentally tough. I don’t put any of that on our legs. The errors we made were mental. I think we need to focus on the mental things and get into the scout a little better. Physically we can do, we’ve conditioned for it, we just need to execute better.”
(on importance of nonconference games)
“I would say it’s extremely important to get them done early. It’s not going to get any easier into the season. This was a great evaluation of us and we know what we need to fix. We’re not going to let it happen again. We’re going to come ready to practice on Sunday and go out there on Tuesday and fix all the mistakes we made. It hurts to get punched, but it’s good to punch as early as we did so we can come back.”
