COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado State junior forward Elin Gustavsson was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday morning.
Gustavsson, a 6-3 forward from Angelholm, Sweden, had her best game of the season in one of the biggest games that CSU will play all season. With the team riding a five-game losing streak against its in-state rival, Colorado, Gustavsson took things into her own hands with a season-high 22 points and seven rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting.
Gustavsson was consistent throughout the entire game, scoring 11 points in both halves on efficient shooting. In the first half, the Swede knocked in five of her 10 attempts, and in the second half, she made all three of her field goal attempts. Gustavsson also made both of her three-point attempts and chipped in defensively with two blocks and a steal as the Rams won 64-63 in dramatic fashion.
This marked the third game in as many tries vs. Colorado that Gustavsson has scored at least 20 points. In her freshman season Gustavsson scored 21 points, and last year she poured in a career-high 28 points. In three career games vs. the in-state rival, Gustavsson is averaging 23.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
This is Gustavsson's second career weekly award, and it's the first time a player from CSU has been honored this season.
