POSTGAME QUOTES - Head Coach Ryun Williams
(opening statement)
"I thought our kids responded really well, that was a good effort by our kids tonight. We just had a number of kids contribute, our bench was spectacular. Overall, just loved the energy, just a very good team win."
(on hot start shooting)
"It was nice that we got into an offensive rhythm and that is the reason we started Jamie (Patrick) we thought we could get some of those looks early, we did in San Diego and she made them tonight. She got us off to a really good start and then it just becomes contagious. So it was nice to see the ball go in the basket."
(on defensive effort in second half)
"The kids were really active tonight. They executed well in the first half. They scored 29 points, had some corners threes, but our kids did a good job of making adjustments in that second half. Thirteen second-half points. I mean what else can you say? That is an outstanding effort on that side of the floor."
(on clean offensive play)
"I thought our decision making tonight was much better, we found the open shooter and we delivered it on time and on target. I was more pleased with the decision making especially in the first half."
(on Patrick's great game)
"She is a young lady we feel we have on the floor more and we are trying our best to do that. We can talk about her shooting, but the reason she got to play was really strong on the back end of that zone, she is long, she rebounded the ball. You will write about her shooting but I'm going to talk about her toughness on the other end."
CSU PLAYER QUOTES
(on three-pointers)
"I was open and my teammates passed it to me. The point that we made was to run, get out and transition. So our point guards, AJ (Newton and Gritt (Ryder), were looking at the floor to throw it to us guards if we ran."
(on offensive execution)
"That's exactly what we wanted to do. We wanted to come out and show that it was a tough loss, but we're going to come out and we're still fighting. I think this is probably one of the best games that we came together."
(on second half shooting mentality)
"I'm not going to take a forced shot because that would be bad for my team. If my shot's there then my teammates trust me to take it. I guess I just didn't have the shot or I was looking for my teammates."
(on shooting)
"As a shooter you just have to come out and shoot if you're open. When your point guards get you the ball they have faith in you to shoot that and so that's what I did tonight."
"He (Ryun Williams) tells all of our shooters even in practice that if we get that open shot to take it. I've said this so many times, but everyone has faith in our shooters and when they pass us the ball they expect us to shoot it."
(on forced shot-clock violations)
"It was definitely a team effort. We knew they were good drivers and we knew where they were going to be. We were predicting and we got a lot of steals tonight also by doing that."
(on 2-3 zone defense)
"We haven't been practicing it that much, but against a team like San Diego (State) where they're great drivers and athletes we have to play a 2-3 zone most of the time. It just depends on the match up honestly."
(on ball handling)
"As the game got going our confidence grew a little bit. Sometimes you have games like New Mexico, where you dribble off your foot and you don't know what's happening. We didn't have anything like that today. Sometimes you also just get lucky, but I thought our mentality was right today."
(on shooters)
"That's the thing, how you said Jamie was streaky, I haven't noticed that. I've noticed that she hasn't made as many threes as before, but we trust them and we believe it's going in when they shoot."
