Tennis Recap: Rams drop contest to Falcons

FORT COLLINS, Colo. --  The Colorado State women's tennis team dropped its third straight match, and fourth consecutive Mountain West contest, after being defeated by Air Force, 6-1, on Friday. The Rams (6-10), were a part of four three-set matches during the day.
"It was disappointing (the loss)," Messick said. "We had four three-set matches and we lost all of them. It has kind of been happening. It happened against Boise State, but we won one against them. The good news is that we are competitive enough that we put ourselves in the position to win the match. The bad news is that we haven't figured out how to close out."
The Falcons clinched the doubles point after winning the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to begin the contest. The Rams' No. 1 pair of Natalie Heffron/Adriana Wojakowska were defeated (6-3), and the No.  2 pair Maddie Buxton/Madison Porter were unable to clinch victory, losing 6-2. CSU's No. 3 pair of Celine Voss/Mollie Cooper did not finish the match, but had a lead when the doubles point was clinched.
In singles play the Rams grabbed one victory at the No. 6 singles spot where Voss defeated her opponent in straight sets (7-6, 6-3).
Colorado State was unable to obtain another victory in singles but lost in four close three-set matches.
At the No. 1, Heffron was defeated (6-0, 4-6, 6-3) after attempting to fight back, while at No. 2 Wojakowska was defeated (4-6, 7-5, 10-4). At the No. 3 singles matchup, the Rams junior Buxton was defeated in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), and at the No. 4 Porter participated in a close three-set match but was defeated (6-3, 4-6, 6-3). The No. 6 contest went three sets but CSU's Cooper was defeated (4-6, 6-0, 6-2).
Colorado State hosts the University of New Mexico on Sunday, April 12, which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. MT. Fans that can't attend the match, which will be held at the University Tennis Complex in Fort Collins, can stream it for free on CSURams.com/videos.
