FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State Athletics’ record-breaking year was not limited to the arena or field of competition in 2014-15, but also extended into the realm of fundraising.
With Colorado State University’s announcement Tuesday of an institution-wide annual fundraising record of $172.3 million, it was also revealed that 4,788 donors contributed directly to the success of CSU Athletics for the 2015 fiscal year, the largest donor base for the Rams since the end of the 2006 fiscal year.
“Supporters of Athletics at Colorado State continue to make a strong statement about their belief in this university and the direction of our athletics program,” said Rams’ Director of Athletics Joe Parker. “We are grateful for the donors who have stepped up in the past year to help fund scholarships for our students who participate in athletics, and to support their overall experience.”
The CSU Athletics Department was one of five divisions on campus – joining four of the university’s eight colleges – to raise more than $10 million. Athletics contributed $13 million to the institution’s record total, ranking second only to CSU’s world-renowned College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences which generated an incredible $75.9 million, including the largest single gift in university history, a $42.5 million donation from John and Leslie Malone to create a new center for the study of regenerative medical therapies for animals and people.
CSU Athletics experienced an overall level of success in 2014-15 that rivaled or surpassed any period in program history. CSU captured four Mountain West Championships throughout the year in volleyball, women’s basketball (regular season) and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field. Five CSU programs competed in NCAA Championships or a bowl game, and men’s and women’s basketball received bids to the NIT and WNIT, respectively. The Rams also ranked No. 1 nationally with a combined winning percentage of .813 in 2014-15 among all NCAA Division I programs competing in FBS football, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball.
