Recap: Rams fall to Cougars in Arizona

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Colorado State women's golf team opened its spring season with a loss to BYU, falling 878-861 in Phoenix, Ariz. The teams played two rounds on Friday and one round Saturday. Despite the loss, CSU's three-round score of 878 was the eighth-best in school history, giving the team its third top-10 all-time finish of the season. The Cougars entered the week ranked 36th nationally.
BYU's Annie Yang won the tournament, shooting a 3-under 210. CSU junior Elisabeth Rau led all Rams golfers with a 4-over 217 (fourth), followed by Allie Andersen (5-over 218; sixth), Brianna Becker (8-over 221; ninth), Sarah Archuleta (9-over 222; 11th), Katrina Prendergast (10-over 223; 12th), Riley Leming (15-over 228; 13th) and Mikayla Tatman (18-over 231; 14th).
Rau's three-round total of 214 tied a career best, which has been done on two other occasions. She shot a 1-under 70 in Round 1, which also tied a personal best. Sophomore Allie Andersen carded a par-71 during Round 1 Friday, helping the Rams to a 5-over 289 through one-third of action. Sarah Archuleta and Katrina Prendergast had strong finishes, shooting a par-70 and 2-under 69 during Round 3, respectively.
Leming made her season debut, competing as an individual. She had nine birdies, the second-most among the 14 golfers and only trailing Rau, who had 11. Rau also led all golfers by shooting three strokes under par on Par-3 holes.
The Rams will next compete in The Gold Rush, a tournament hosted by Long Beach State, Feb. 22-23.
