LINCOLN, Neb. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team was shut out at Nebraska Sunday morning, falling to the Huskers, 7-0. Despite the loss, the Rams (2-4) were more competitive on Sunday than they were Saturday against nationally ranked Wichita State.
At the No. 5 singles position, senior Madison Porter forced a third set following a 6-1 Set-2 victory. She lost to Nebraska’s Mackenna Maddox-Herr, 6-3, in the deciding frame. Several other matches were tightly contested, as well, including Emily Kolbow (No. 2 singles), Celine Voss (No. 4) and Aina Hernandez Soler (No. 6). After dropping the first set, 6-3, Kolbow nearly took the next frame before falling, 7-5. Voss won four games in each of her two sets, while Hernandez Soler won four games in Set 1 and three in Set 2.
In doubles play, Nebraska defeated Aina Hernandez Soler-Madison Porter, 6-2, and Maddie Buxton-Laia Hernandez Soler, 6-4. The tandem of Kolbow-Voss was trailing 6-5 when their match was halted.
CSU returns home to face Colorado College Saturday at 5 p.m. MT at the Fort Collins Country Club. Prior to the match, the Rams will host a free kids’ clinic.
