DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado State women’s tennis team ended a seven-match losing skid on Saturday, blanking Nebraska Omaha 4-0 in Denver.

“It’s always good to get a win,” CSU head coach Jon Messick said. “We won at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to clinch the doubles point, but that’s an area we are going to continue to work on. In singles, I was pleased with the rhythm and that we played the way we wanted to.”

The Rams were dominant at all positions on Saturday, beginning with doubles play. CSU posted victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to earn the match’s first point. Emily Kolbow/Celine Voss secured a 6-4 victory and Maddie Buxton/Caroline Henderson won their match, 6-2. The duo is now 2-2 this spring, with Henderson recently returning to the lineup from injury. CSU’s Aina Hernandez Soler/Madison Porter were defeated at the No. 1 spot, 6-4.

CSU then won three singles matches to secure the victory and end the match. The two teams had agreed prior to the match that after a team had clinched victory (four points) the match would end. At that point, CSU had lost just one set in singles play.

“It was nice to see good performances in singles action from Emily, who was consistent today at the No. 3, and from Celine (Voss) at the No. 6,” Messick said. “Celine was struggling, but she played a solid match at No. 6 and I liked the way she won.”

All three singles victories were won in straight sets, beginning with Aina Hernandez Soler who defeated her No. 2 foe 6-1, 6-1. Kolbow was also dominant, winning by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. At the No. 6 position, Voss also was victorious, 6-1, 6-0. It was her first victory from the No. 6 position this spring, to go along with two wins at No. 4.

After not playing at home since Feb. 20, CSU will get to play the remainder of its schedule on its home court. The Rams will host Northern Colorado on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. MT at the University Tennis Complex, followed by three conference matches and the 2016 Mountain West Championships throughout the month of April. All regular-season matches are free to the public. Tuesday’s match can also be streamed for free at CSURams.com/videos and tracked on Twitter.
