Rozentale joins the Rams with international and club experience in Latvia
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State women's basketball team has signed Janeta Rozentale to a national letter of intent, head coach Ryun Williams announced on Friday.
Â
Rozentale will compete for Colorado State beginning with the 2018-19 season and will have freshman eligibility. She joins the Rams with experience in the Latvian Basketball League and on the Latvian National Team.
Â
"Janeta can do so many things on the basketball court," Williams said. "Her length and athleticism is quite special. She's a long, skilled and positionless player who can score from many different spots on the floor as well as guard any position on the floor. She's a great fit for CSU women's basketball and comes to us from a Latvian program that we have much respect for."
Â
Rozentale brings several years of international experience to CSU basketball. The 6-foot-1 forward has competed with Latvia at different levels since 2015, including campaigns at three different FIBA Women's European Championships and multiple FIBA Women's World Championships. She gained additional experience playing at different levels of the Latvian Basketball League.
Â
In 2017, Rozentale averaged 12.4 points and 10.7 rebounds per game for Latvia in U18 European play, recording double-doubles three times and scoring in double digits in five of seven games. Among her top performances in that event was a 20-point, 18-rebound (nine offensive) effort to lead Latvia to an 81-72 victory over Lithuania.
Â
Rozentale has also split time between a role on TTT Riga's top team and as a regular starter for the club's junior team, TTT Riga Juniores. In 12 games in 2016-17, Rozentale was by far the junior team's best rebounder (9.1 per game), and shot a team best .462 (36-of-78) en route to an average of 9.6 points per game. Through five games this season, Rozentale paces the Juniores in points per game (15.2), rebounds per game (9.4) and field goal percentage (.650; 26-of-40).
Â
Notably, Rozentale is the second player to join the Rams from Latvia in the past three signing classes, joining current CSU sophomore Anna Dreimane. Among the other schools that Rozentale considered were TCU, Indiana, Kansas State, San Francisco and South Florida.
