CSU to host Jon Messick Invitational in October, seven head-to-head matches in spring
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams tennis program has announced its 2017-18 competition schedule.
The Rams host one fall tournament – the Jon Messick Invitational (Oct. 6-8) – and seven matches in the spring at the University Tennis Complex. In total, CSU will play in three fall tournaments and 21 matches in the spring, leading to the Mountain West conference tournament April 26-29 in Boise, Idaho.
"We're excited to have the Jon Messick Invitational and seven other matches at home," second-year head coach Jarod Camerota stated. "Hopefully we will continue to get strong support from the local community and continue to showcase our program to new audiences in the area."
CSU's slate begins with a three-day tournament hosted by Creighton in Omaha, Neb., Sept. 29-Oct. 1. The Jon Messick Invitational runs Oct. 6-8 at the University Tennis Complex, located at 2400 Research Blvd. The Rams wrap up their fall season with a tournament hosted by Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich., Nov. 3-5.
The first 10 matches of the spring season are on the road for the Rams, beginning with a trip to Boulder to face Colorado on Jan. 20.
A bulk of CSU's non-conference spring schedule takes place in the Midwest. CSU plays at Wisconsin on Jan. 27, followed by other matches in the region against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Nebraska, Eastern Michigan, Western Illinois and Drake. CSU will also play UC Riverside, Youngstown State and UNLV in Las Vegas. The match versus MW member UNLV will count as a non-conference meeting. The Rams will play their final two road non-conference matches in San Diego, against UC Irvine and San Diego.
The Rams have several players from the states of Wisconsin and Illinois, and the squad is excited to play so many events in that part of the country.
"I'm excited for the team and for myself that we get to head to one of our big recruiting areas in the Midwest," Camerota said.
CSU will play its first home contest of the spring against Nebraska Omaha on March 3. The Rams will also host Creighton (March 24) and Weber State (March 25) before the MW portion of the schedule gets going.
The Rams will host Utah State (March 29) and Boise State (April 1) to begin league action. CSU will then play two MW teams on the road (New Mexico – April 6, Air Force – April 8), before returning home to host Northern Colorado in a non-league meeting on April 19. CSU closes the regular season with its Senior Day match against Wyoming on April 21.
