FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State men's golf completed a record run to capture its fourth consecutive home tournament victory, winning 2017 Ram Masters Invitational presented by Pedersen Toyota, Sept. 18-19. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by CSU, was played at Fort Collins Country Club (Par 70 – 7,218 yards) in Fort Collins, Colo.

Entering the day with a 14-shot advantage, the Rams were again the top team on the course, shooting their third round of par or better with a 5-under 275 to finish with a 54-hole tournament record 17-under 823. With increased wind for today's final round, including gusts up to 25 miles per hour, CSU never led by fewer than 12 shots on the day, stretching the advantage to more than 20 strokes before winning by 19 shots over runner-up UMKC at 2-over 842. Wyoming was third at 7-over 847, one shot better than TCU in fourth at 8-under 848. Sam Houston State was fifth at 16-over 856 in the 19-team field that featured eight programs represented by either teams or individuals in the 2017 NCAA Regionals.

"I'm really proud of how our guys came out and finished the tournament today," head coach Christian Newton said. "It would have been easy to back off and allow teams to climb back into it. However they came out with an attacking attitude and that made the difference on the day, especially when the wind kicked up in the afternoon. Everyone played very well overall, and I anticipate this will carry over well to our next tournament later this week."

Sophomore AJ Ott was the top finisher for the Rams, placing fourth at 4-under 206 following an even-par 70 in the last round. Junior Jake Staiano was one shot behind Ott at 3-under 207, shooting a 1-under 69 in today's action. Senior Colton Yates tied for sixth at 2-under 208, while freshman Parathakorn (Poon) Suyasri tied for eighth at 1-under 209, shooting a 3-under 67 in the final 18, the low final round in among the event's 104 players. Senior Max Oelfke tied for 21st at 3-over 213. Playing as individuals, freshman Cullen Plousha tied Oelfke in 21st at 3-over 213, with freshman Jack Ainscough tying for 28th at 6-over 216. Junior Pierce Aichinger completed CSU's individual effort in 96th at 22-over 232. UMKC's Francois Lagraulet held on to his 36-hole individual lead, shooting a 1-under 69 to finish at 9-under 201, also a new tournament record.

"It was good," Ott said. "Our team mentality, especially after having a good day yesterday, was to go out and fire at some flags and make some birdies. My mentality today was to not play defensive and I didn't. We wanted to win by 30 shots, so there is always room for improvement, but I am happy with how we all played with grit under some tough conditions."

The Rams quickly return to the course, playing in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Fri.-Sat., Sept. 22-23. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of New Mexico, will be played in UNM's Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. Last year, Colorado State finished second in the event, with then-senior Blake Cannon taking home medalist honors.
