Rams open spring with trip to Boulder

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State Rams will take on the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday in Boulder, Colo., at 11 a.m. MT in their first match of the spring season.

The trip to Boulder will kick off a 22-match spring season for the Rams. CSU plays its first 10 matches away from home.

Each CSU player finished the fall with a winning record in singles play, and there were some standout moments in doubles as well. Sophomore Alyssa Grijalva and freshman Priscilla Palermo combined to go 5-2 in doubles in the fall, while both Palermo and fellow freshman Emily Luetschwager went 7-2 in singles to lead the Rams. Grijalva went 6-2 in singles, and freshman Emma Corwin was 6-3.

CU played in the Indiana Winter Invitational last weekend, competing against players from Indiana, Marquette, Wright State, DePaul, Mississippi State and Abilene Christian.

The Buffs won last year's matchup in Fort Collins, and CSU head coach Jarod Camerota is expecting another challenging outing against CU.

"They're a good team," Camerota said. "They have a similar team to last year; they lost their No. 1 but added another new good player. They're going to compete and get after us and hopefully we do the same to them."

CU freshman Linda Huang led the Buffs with an 11-3 singles mark in the fall. Huang teamed up with junior Annabelle Andrinopoulos to go 7-3 in doubles.

The CSU squad is looking forward to getting its season started, and they're glad that they can play close to home in the first weekend.

"We will have fans come down from Fort Collins and they'll have good fan support, too," Camerota said. "It should be a good atmosphere to get our season started."

The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center in Boulder, Colo.
