FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State swimming & diving squad will face Denver in its first dual meet of the 2018-19 season on Friday at 4 p.m. MT.
CSU will be competing for the second week in a row after opening its season at the Intermountain Shootout in Grand Junction, Colo. CSU defeated the host squad, Colorado Mesa, but lost to BYU.
Denver kicked off its season last week as well, winning the four-team Denver Relays in its home facility. The Pioneers beat Wyoming, Colorado School of Mines and Western State in a strong opening to its 2018-19 campaign.
The Rams had standout swims from senior Haley Rowley and sophomore Maddie Ward at the Intermountain Shootout, with the duo combining for seven individual event wins with Ward sweeping all three breaststroke events.
"We are excited for the opportunity to head down to Denver and face one of the tougher teams in the nation in the Pioneers," CSU head coach Woody Woodard said. "We hope to rebound after a tough weekend on the western slope and get some athletes back healthy. If so, we expect a stronger performance both physically and mentally."
Following the dual with Denver, CSU will return to Moby Pool for its first home competition when it hosts Wyoming on Oct. 24 at 4 p.m.
The Rams will not leave the state of Colorado for competition until they travel to Houston for the Phil Hansel Invite, Nov. 16-18.
CSU is coming off a strong 2017-18 season where the team finished with an 8-3 dual meet record, its best since the 2009-10 season. The squad finished in fifth place at the Mountain West Championships for the second consecutive year and broke a dozen school records.
