FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Colorado State track & field team will begin its 2018-19 indoor season this week with trips to the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi and the Air Force Holiday Open.
Â
The Mines Alumni Classic & Multi, hosted annually by the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo., will be held over a two-day span (Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7). The Air Force Holiday Open is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 7. A live stream is available for the meet at CSM, and each meet may also be followed through live results.
Â
"This week is a starting point for us and an opportunity to see where we're at," Colorado State head coach Brian Bedard said. "It'll affirm for some of the athletes that they're ready to go, and for some it'll be a sign that they need to get back to work, whether that's competition focus, technique or if they're not quite ready physically. Whatever the case ends up being, it gives coaches and athletes a chance to evaluate where we're at and what we need to do from this point. We have some young groups on our team in certain areas, as well, so we're excited to see them get started."
Â
The bulk of the team will compete at Air Force on Friday. Field events will begin at 3 p.m. MT, starting with the women's weight throw and the men's pole vault. Colorado State begins competition in track events at 5:20 p.m. MT with the women's 60-meter hurdles.
Â
Among the highlights for the Mines Alumni Classic & Multi is an early opportunity for the Rams' multi-event athletes to compete. Each of the women's pentathlon and the men's heptathlon will begin at approximately 1 p.m. MT on Thursday, with the pentathlon concluding on day one and the heptathlon continuing through Friday. Day two of the heptathlon is slated for an 11 a.m. MT start.
Â
A full recap and results will be posted to CSURams.com as soon as each are available. Following this week's pair of meets, Colorado State will be away from competition for just over a month before returning to action on Jan. 11 and 12 at the Potts Indoor Invitational in Boulder, Colo.
