Recap: CSU wins at Drake, 4-1

Rams cap off perfect weekend in Des Moines with victory over host Bulldogs
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Colorado State tennis team defeated the Drake Bulldogs by a 4-1 margin at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Sunday.
The road win capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend for the CSU (6-4). It was also Drake's (7-2) first home loss of the year, falling to 5-1 in Des Moines.
"It was good to be able to go 2-0 this weekend," CSU head coach Jarod Camerota said. "We secured doubles points in both our matches this weekend and did what we needed to do to win."
The Rams took the opening doubles points with wins on courts No. 1 and 3. Sophomore Alyssa Grijalva and freshman Priscilla Palermo won 6-2 at No. 1. Another sophomore/freshman duo, Riley Reeves and Emma Corwin, clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the No. 3 position.
CSU quickly had Drake on the ropes through two singles matches, with Reeves and freshman Emily Luetschwager winning straight-set decisions to put the Rams up 3-0. Reeves defeated Alex Kozlowski at No. 6, followed by Luetschwager winning at No. 2 over Tess Herder.
Drake got on the scoreboard with Liza Petushkova winning at No. 3 over Grijalva. The loss was just Grijalva's second of the spring.
Corwin sealed the win for the Rams in comeback fashion on court No. 5. Corwin lost 6-0 to Joely Lomas in the first set, but rallied to win the following two sets 6-2, 6-4 to give the match win to the visiting Rams.
The win was of the vengeful variety for CSU, who lost a tight 4-3 match to Drake last year in Fort Collins.
CSU played its first 10 matches of the spring on the road and will compete at home for the first time on Saturday against Omaha at the CSU Tennis Complex. The Rams will play two matches next weekend, also hosting Presbyterian on Sunday. More information about CSU home matches is available at CSURams.com.
"We've learned a lot about what we're good at and where we need to improve," Camerota said. "Now we are excited to come home and play in front of our great fans."
